A tip for the guys (and maybe some hairy girls). If you are old enough to shave then you will be interested to know that regular shaves can help reduce the amount of spots you get.
Growing a beard will not aggregate your acne, but if you are a lazy shaver and do not shave regularly then your skin will itch and become irritated. This may lead to more breakouts.
What would you define as regularly?
Personally, I prefer to shave every day, but everyone is different and you may find that shaving every two days works for you.
Why is shaving good for your skin?
Shaving is an excellent way of exfoliating your skin and removing dead skin cells.
Tips for shaving:
- Always wash your face with warm water beforehand to soften your skin. If practical, shaving in the shower will help.
- Using gentle, circular strokes when applying shaving gel/cream. This will again soften your skin and make shaving easier.
- Use a good quality shaver, possible with at least 3 blades. Gillette is very good and “the best a man can get” apparently. Less strokes: less irritation for your skin.
- Shave with the grain (downward strokes) for a closer shave.
- Shave around inflamed and sore areas to avoid infection.
- If you are taking Accutane use a sensitive skin shaving gel to calm your skin down, as your skin is extremely sensitive and dry during Accutane treatment.
How often do you shave?
